It was November first, a very big day for Makayla.Today she was turning sixteen. She wanted everything to be perfect for her party when her friends got there. The whole house was decorated with red and gold decor. Her parents rented a carnival for the event. She even picked out the perfect outfit. She wore a red jumpsuit with gold earrings to match the theme. They only thing missing was the cake but her parents were going to pick it up in a few minutes. It was a chocolate cake shaped like a merry go round. She heard the doorbell go off as the first few guests arrived. They were in awe when they saw the backyard. Makayla was waiting for her two best friends, Sophia and Melody, to arrive while everyone was enjoying the party. When they finally arrived the first ride they got on was the merry go round. When they were in sixth grade, they all met on the ride which is why it was so special to them. After riding most of the rides, she went to go look for her parents. She couldn’t find them so she stepped in the house to give them a call. They told her that they went to grab the cake and they should be back in twenty minutes. After the call she went to find her friends and they continued to play the carnival games and ride the rides. Two hours had gone by and her parents still weren’t back yet. It wasn’t like them to be off schedule especially on her birthday. She tried calling but there was no answer. So she went upstairs to her room and sat at her window seat. She called both phones three times each. Something was wrong, they always pick up even at work. She heard a knock on her room door, it was two policemen. She immediately stood up, her palms were sweating, she knew this wouldn’t be good. They asked her to take a seat but she refused. They told her how there had been an accident, that when her parents were on their way home a semi truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and rammed into her parents. She started to scream and cry uncontrollably. The officers tried to grab her and calm her down but she was pulling away and before they knew it she flew back out of the window. When Makayla woke up she was in her bed and was so confused when her parents walked in. I thought you were both dead, she stated. Her parents looked at each other exchanging worried glances and told her it was just a dream. She hugged them both so hard, the feeling without her parents made her feel so empty inside. They told her breakfast was ready and they would wait downstairs, while she gets ready for the day. She wore worry on her face because the only times her parents have taken her out is usually when they have to tell her something big. Last time they took her out they let her know they were getting divorced. She proceeded to get ready as they walked out of the room. She grabbed her favorite sundress and matching shades to go with it. She took a quick shower, got dressed, and made her way downstairs to the breakfast area. All of her favorite breakfast foods were laid out on the table so she definitely knew something was up. She did not question them though because last time she got in trouble for doing so. They all made sure they had everything cleaned before they left since it was Rosa's day off. They all got in the town car and went to a fair they all used to go to in town. This was her favorite place to go with them when her parents were together. It was such a beautiful day out like it was the last time they went. They even did all the activities in the same order. Something was off, Makyala just couldn’t put her tongue on it. After the fair was over, they went to a diner close by. They all got the burgers, fries, and a strawberry milkshake. They discussed what a wonderful day it had been and she finally asked. What is going on? Her dad looked at her and told her that they wanted to relive her favorite day. She was so confused until she realized that every little thinking was exactly like three years ago. Not one thing was different including the people that were at the fair. She started to panic and they told her that they were happy to be together, the three of them. Finally it hit her, today wasn’t real. It all turned white and there lay Makayla Baker age sixteen, dead on her front lawn.
